Better Jed than Dead

Check out the poster I made for my friend Jedidiah Ayres.  Something special for the man who puts all the blood, sweat, and blood, and more blood, and tears, and a little extra blood into Noir at the Bar STL.  And damn if he didn't dirty up some other states as well, because Noir at the Bar is spreading across this country faster than bicycle rash.  The next event is at Meshuggah Cafe, in the Delmar Loop, December 7th.  Usually around 7:30.

Here's what I can add to the stink.

Rise of the burger machines

Oh man, with November's episode of Cheap Fun! The Short Story Podcast we get back into the swing of things.  Marital bliss can't hold me back from churning out the literary hits, doing the work, fighting the good fight, taking the swings at life, beating life into a senseless pile of mush, putting life through a grinder, shaping before mentioned ground up life into patty, frying said patty, and adding my secret sauce.

Next month's episode is titled BURGER MACHINE!  Below is some of the art work in progress for the poster.  Come back and see the finished product.

Sneak a peek!

Episode #13 Mister Carlson Gets Deported on Cheap Fun! The Short Story Podcast up this Sunday September 1st.  You won't hear from me again until I'm a married man...

Here's a sneaky peek at the story:
Mr. Carlson was infuriated.  He had more than proven his worth to this country. He had been President and Chief Executive Officer of the Common Bankshares, Inc. since ‘73, and chairman of the board since 1988, among other titles.  Surely this was not the resume of a criminal.  Yes, he had his car impounded in New Hampshire a few years ago after he was found asleep on the side of the road, but there was never anything proven.  Sure he had totaled the Mercedes one summer evening in a rainstorm when he and Millie slid down an embankment into a gushing stream, but Millie had drank more than he and it was the fourth of July, they were entitled!

2 legit

Cheap Fun is now up on iTunes!  Does that mean we here at the Shenandoah School for Fancy Ass Literature are now legit?  Not quite.

Just look up Cheap Fun! The Short Story Podcast in the iTunes store or download the podcast app and get automatic updates.  Thanks again to the Regional Arts Commission for making this possible.  My new microphone is being express shipped to get here on time for the 12th episode... hopefully.

I can't help to continue to expect the worst.
The UPS driver will probably crash into a sinkhole.
Well, that'll teach him for wearing that stupid outfit.

Good news!

First... July 6th the newest issue of Le Wobble comes out featuring work by myself, my future wife, and many friends. For more information on how to get a copy and if you want to attend the release party visit the le wobble website.

Second...  I just got news that I have been awarded a grant from the Regional Arts Commission here in St. Louis for the Cheap Fun! Podcast.  Now I will be able to buy a new microphone so you can't hear my dog sighing in the the background and get my stuff up on iTunes so even more people can have the chance to not listen!  Okay, no jokes.  I'm happy as a clam.

Uh oh, now I'm going to have to change my whole outlook on life.  I've gotten most of my creative juice from being cynical.  I'm screwed.  Anyway, new podcast episode coming July 1st.

Episode #10 of the Cheap Fun! Short Story Podcast is now up, so grab a High Life and get ready to talk conspiracy theories.... man.

Here's an excerpt for you kiddies:

Before the crowd that had gathered outside Mr. Sullivan’s house lay not the plump body of a sixty eight year old man in repose, starring up at a benevolent afternoon sky from the comfort of his thick blue grass, the way maybe a man his age should have gone and in fact prepares in such ways to go.  Rather they saw the small fly stuck piles of red mush that had all but lost its humanity with the exception of a pair of legs in velour lounge pants splayed in the grass.  Mr. Sullivan’s knobby old man knees.  Mr. Sullivan’s dry bare feet. The newspaper in its blood spattered plastic bag.

I'm now on the twitter, doing the tweets.
I guess I'm trying to interact with the world.
In a detached, passive aggressive way.
I am my father's son after all.

That just got too real.

Anyway, check out the podcast too.

This month's story is "The Writer's Ghost."  Scary stuff.  Not in the creepy clown sort of way.  More in the crushing weight of life choices sort of way.  There's also some animal abuse.  Yikes.

here's some text from the story to get your fruit juice fermented:

The writer's ghost speaks to you from beyond the grave.
Of course its your choice if you want to listen.
He goes around moaning and you're certainly not wrong to question his credibility.
If there is truth to his pain it's fruitless and everlasting.
If he appears to reach a climax relief will be fleeting.
Soon enough he will find something else to moan about.
And no amount of prayer will shut him up.

LOL! ;-)

There is ice cream in your future

Happy stories for everybody!  Check out this months episode of CHEAP FUN, the short story podcast.
There's ice cream...

Here's a quote to get you pumped:

"... he might have floated all the way down to New Orleans before drowning.  Whole new varieties of pain entered his mind.  Sharks in the Gulf.  Assholes on jet skis.  Fire spewing over water.  Tar and feathers.  Crabs picking at the bones."

Some light-hearted listening for a fine day.

Also, if you want to check out some old episodes, please be my guest.

The sixth edition of the seven part series following a dwarf in an epic adventure in public service.
Actually a failed attempt at micro fiction, this story is a journey into madness!!!!!

There's a star man waiting in the sky...

I have been creating new characters for The Grey Zone comic, one of which is this sexy beast.  Space Tom is an alien who is in love with Dr. Elly Tarsus and tries to impregnate her in various ways.  Not sure if he'll end up keeping the devil tail, but I like it in this drawing.

By the way I just discovered that there is a movie called "The Grey Zone" which is based on events that happened in Auschwitz.  Awkward.  Not really sure if I'll do anything about that.

An American with Korean School Children

Here's an old painting that maybe you probably have not seen.

Mostly I am putting this up so I can repost the PODCAST!
If you haven't checked out the last episode (and I know you haven't) you should.
Why?  Because I say so... and there's nudity.

Also, you should check out my good buddy Adam's website.  He just refurbished the whole place.

By the way, that new Bowie song is gorgeously sad in a good way.

THE CROWDS DEMAND MORE COMICS!!!'s a re-drawn and more fleshed out strip from THE GREY ZONE, my comic strip spoof of The X-Files (I posted an earlier version that was much shorter).  This is the first "episode clip" that will appear in the Cheap Fun comic book.  I think it is a proper introduction for the FBI agents assigned to the G- Cases, Bearcat Holder and Dr. Elly Tarsus.

Here is a page taken out of the CHEAP FUN comic book I'm working on.
If you are confused about what is going on don't feel bad.
Its not because you're stupid or anything.
Actually I think you're really smart.
No seriously.
And you're pretty good looking.
Yeah, you know, in the right light.

Anyway, heres a page from the strip NRA BFF!
